Winter Wonders Workshops - Week 3: Magic & Charms

Magic was definitely in the air last Sunday as Hogwarts Academy students explored UU Principle #1 "Each and every person is unique and to be respected." as they deciphered Prof. Albus Dumbledore's hidden messages, created their own clay charms and enjoyed edible wands - chocolate dipped pretzels and fruit. They also made potion color predictions with special chants over tree branches which then converted into chenille tipped wands. What is Magic - is it an odd ability or talent or just something that behaves in a way we don't expect or have not yet learned about? Consider our grandparents' generation use now of magical inventions like cell phones, digital cameras and Skype! Charms are something that makes someone feel loved, special or safe. Students shared what lucky objects they have endowed with a belief of magical powers and used for certain reasons.

Join us on Sun., Feb. 2, for Quidditch Skills and making pet toys for MSPCA-Angell. Children will begin in worship at 10:30 with their families and then depart for the Winter Wonders Workshops.

Some Hogwarts Academy messages: - from J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series -

"We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better."

"It is important to remember that we all have magic inside of us."

– from Prof. Dumbledore, headmaster -

"Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic, capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it."
